Michigan High School Esports Federation (MIHSEF) Crowns West Side Dominance at 9th State Finals

Grand Rapids, MI - December 10, 2023 — The Michigan High School Esports Federation (MIHSEF), a non profit 501(c)(3) celebrated the Michigan High School Esports Champions at the conclusion of its 9th esports state finals on Saturday, December 9th, 2023. The event marked a remarkable west side sweep, as teams from West Michigan claimed victory in all the coveted titles.

In a thrilling Rocket League showdown, Grand Rapids West Catholic emerged triumphant over Mason Bedford, securing their first state title. This victory was a crowning achievement for a program that has consistently been in the hunt for the past few seasons, showcasing their prowess on the virtual battleground.  Zeeland High school took third overall on the day.

Meanwhile, East Kentwood etched their name in the annals of MIHSEF history with a spectacular quintuple. Despite facing a formidable Divine Child team, who earlier in the day upset Rockford, the #1 seed, and a team that had only dropped one map all year, East Kentwood demonstrated their dominance. Earlier in the day, a poignant moment of silence was observed for Cam'ron Hill, a captain of East Kentwood's Valorant team and a state champion in the last two seasons, who tragically passed away earlier this year. Rockford ended up still battling back and taking third place.

While being a newer program, Kelloggsville asserted their dominance in Smash. Finishing the season at the top and earning the coveted top seed in the tournament, Kelloggsville showcased their prowess by breezing through the bracket and decisively defeating East Grand Rapids for the title. Charlotte high school ended up taking third place.

MIHSEF continues to be a beacon for high school esports, fostering competition and camaraderie among the next generation of gaming enthusiasts. The 9th state finals showcased the passion, skill, and sportsmanship that define the essence of esports in Michigan high schools.

The champions will be welcomed into two separate national tournaments that include other state champions.
